ABOUT

Jorge Marroquin
Founder | Chief Engineer
Sacramento, California, USA

Jorge Marroquin is a first-generation Salvadoran American producer and engineer born in Redwood City, California. His musical journey began in 2000 where he picked up his first instrument in 5th grade band class, alto saxophone. He would go on to be classically and jazz trained throughout college and played in numerous symphonic and studio jazz bands. Along the way he took classical piano lessons and taught himself to play the guitar during his lunch breaks in middle school. Later in 2004, he formed a pop punk band where he played rhythm guitar and backup vocals. He co-wrote and produced all of the songs. It was in the recording process of those records that he discovered his obsession for audio and music production. After that, a never ending quest would unfold to learn everything he could about the art of engineering.

Fast forward to 2010, he's introduced to hit producer/songwriter Brian Alexander Morgan, who had produced and wrote for major artists like Usher, Mariah Carey, SWV, etc. Excited to have met someone actually in the industry, they start connecting more at his studio in Sacramento, CA where he lived at the time. He would eventually hire him as his personal engineer and have him relocate to Los Angeles with him in 2011. They would go on to cut records for many artists including Faith Evans, Tamar Braxton, Jill Scott and Muni Long to name a few. He made many unique connections and experiences that would later help shape his future.

In 2016 after he had already moved back up to Northern California, a stripped down keys-only version of a demo they made for Justin Beiber years prior fell into the hands of Noah "40" Shebib. That sample ended up being one of Jorge's biggest engineering and sound design contributions which happened to land on Drake's "Views" album. It was nominated for a GRAMMY award following its release. The song "9" was the second track on the album and was produced by Noah "40" Shebib, Boi-1da and Brian Alexander Morgan. Since then the album has been certified six times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
After moving back up north, he founded a production company called Fvders Music Group with long time collaborator Tatum Martin. They would go on to produce records for PARTYNEXTDOOR, Roy Woods, Reason, YFL Kelvin, and many more. In 2018 YFL Kelvin signed a multi-million dollar deal with Def Jam Recordings following the completion of his album "Outta Here", which 7 out of the 10 songs were produced by The Fvders featuring Moneybagg Yo on the main single entitled "Nasdaq".

All of a sudden 2020 arrives and COVID-19 is introduced to the U.S. He is sent home from a job he had just gotten 3 months prior with an undetermined amount of unpaid sick leave. Out of necessity to provide for his newborn identical twins girls, although an unconventional method at the moment, he dove in head-first into the business of audio engineering. He capitalized on new types of leads online that would reach a more global scale.
From that endeavor is how J3M Sound was born.

Since then he has parted ways with Fvders Music Group and has stayed on the entrepreneur path providing for his family through all things music. Creating and nurturing strong bonds with clients would often develop into new meaningful friendships. Compassion and understanding is an essential part of how J3M Sound operates weather you are creating something new together or getting any sort of engineering work done. The feeling of knowing that you are in good hands is what he tries to incubate and realize into existence.
Even in the midst of all the hardship and adversity endured over the years, there was always a recurring theme in his mind: "Keep going." Quitting was not an option. There was never a plan B. The amount of persistence and resilience that was needed for this feat was unprecedented, but it made Jorge the professional he is today.
"Opportunity can benefit no man who has not fitted himself to seize it and use it. Opportunity woos the worthy, shuns the unworthy. Prepare yourself to grasp opportunity, and opportunity is likely to come your way."
